Research notes
Ocular albinism (OA1/GPR143) simulation models the three principal visual effects:
foveal hypoplasia (reduced central acuity from absent foveal pit), iris transillumination
(photophobia from melanin deficiency in RPE and iris), and optic fiber misrouting
(chiasmal decussation anomaly causing binocular imbalance and VEP asymmetry).

Clinical notes: S-cone weight is set to 0.95 to reflect mild short-wavelength
attenuation associated with reduced macular pigment optical density (MPOD) in hypopigmented
foveas. These approximations modify channel contributions and severity mapping to emulate
retinal pigment changes. They are simplified and intended for research/preview only — see model
assumptions for limits.
Model assumptions & limits
- This model operates in sRGB; it approximates cone weighting by scaling channel contributions.
- Severity curves are heuristic (linear/sigmoid/gamma) and do not replace clinical diagnoses.
- ΔE and chromaticity measures use standard CIE conversions but depend on display/profile.
