Research notes
Amblyopia simulates unilateral or bilateral visual cortex under-development
during the critical period. Anisometropic mode applies defocus blur from inter-ocular
refractive difference. Strabismic mode models cortical suppression of the deviating eye.
Deprivation mode simulates the most severe acuity loss from congenital cataract or ptosis.
Crowding checkbox adds spatial letter-recognition interference at peripheral eccentricities.

Clinical notes: Amblyopia does not primarily cause colour vision loss but
secondary contrast sensitivity reduction reduces effective chromatic response in the
amblyopic eye. Mild M-channel weight reduction (w_M=0.95) reflects reduced mid-spatial
frequency sensitivity observed in strabismic amblyopia. Not validated against clinical
colour testing.
Model assumptions & limits
- Blur is modelled as isotropic Gaussian; real amblyopic blur is spatial-frequency specific and orientation-dependent.
- Cortical suppression is modelled as uniform contrast reduction; actual suppression scotomas are spatially variable.
- ΔE and chromaticity measures depend on display calibration and ambient lighting.
